"Avengers: Endgame" is the final chapter in a long MCU journey. The film details the aftermath of the remaining Avengers after the mad titan Thanos succeeded in wiping out half the universe, and the intense and action packed story of a chance for redemption: whatever it takes.
The movie sits at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 77 on Metacritic. Endgame has absolutely CRUSHED the box offices, earning $1.2 BILLION its opening weekend.
There was a lot about this movie that truly lived to the hype. The action, for starters, was breath taking. I felt myself shudder with anxiety as I watched some of my favorite heroes battle. This, added on with some phenomenal CGI skills, has me hooked.
What I expected to be a mostly serious movie actually had a ton of humor! MCU movies are notorious for their jokes: "Thor Ragnorok", "Guardians of the Galaxy", "Ant-Man" are a few that come to mind. The humor didn't feel forced; it came at appropriate times. There were characters who had specific roles as comedic release, but others had their moment of fame in the funny department.
Endgame had a TON of references to others MCU movies. For fans who have been here since "Iron Man", these parts touched the heart, as the directors were able to refer many lines, quotes, and scenes back to earlier movies in this Infinity Saga.
This is an extremely emotional film, both in terms of sadness and happiness. These characters have been around for so long, and through every scene I felt a part of me being connected by these actors and actresses. They've done such a good job throughput the years, as each MCU character developed, so did the fans watching them.
Many characters got major character development in this movie, which got me excited. The future of the MCU is a bit unclear: "Spider-Man: Far From Home" is out this summer, many actors and actresses are on their last contractual obligation, and the recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox brings in new Marvel franchises. Seeing some other characters develop makes me think they are to play future roles in Phase 4, and that's comforting.
Besides a few narrative issues, this movie was incredible. As a Marvel fan, watching these heroes make their last stand and seeing what the Russo Brothers brought to the table to end this era of the MCU was satisfying, emotional, and amazing. The Sam's Snippets Score is a 9.6, and if you haven't seen it already, I SERIOUSLY recommend it.
