I seriously didn't think I would be doing another Chicago Bulls upload until at least the NBA Draft. It's pretty embarrassing to watch this team. Even a win yesterday over the nine win Cleveland Cavaliers was bad enough to make my stomach twist in a knot. We're young, but we are BAD.
It came as a bit of a surprise then, when I logged onto Twitter and saw the following post from NBA analyst Adrian Wojnarowski.
This was a move that Bulls fans were hoping would occur years ago, back when Melo was still playing for the New York Knicks. That was back when Chicago still had players like Joekim Noah and Derrick Rose (Rose just had 31 yesterday including a game winner over the Phoenix Suns. Miss that guy)
In any case, Melo's career has sort of hit the curb in recent years. After being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder last year, the team traded him to the Atlanta Hawks, where he was bought out and signed a veteran's minimum deal with the Houston Rockets. Melo has been ALL over it seems.
In his very limited season with the Rockets, 10 games to be exact, Melo averaged 13.4 points, with a shooting percentage of 40.5% and 32.8% from deep, according to Basketball-Reference.com. Not the usual stats this former super star has once been able to put up.
In all honesty, don't expect Melo to suit up for Chicago at all. Woj later tweeted that Melo will be released and become a free agent as soon as the trade becomes final, as he wasn't officially traded today due to the holiday.
Oh ya, happy Martin Luther King Jr Day everyone!
Chicago may hold onto Melo until the trade deadline of February 7th, in order to both get value from him as well as try and place himself into a situation where he can contribute to a team. Let's not forget what this player CAN do; Melo can still hoop, provided he's in the right situation. As of now, the Lakers have expressed interest, however the team doesn't want to waive anyone yet for him.
In a corresponding move, the Rockets have signed Kenneth Faried to their team and have waived James Nunnally. Faried was traded to the Brooklyn Nets earlier this season from the Denver Nuggets and was recently bought out by the Nets.
Sorry Chicago, no real superstar yet. But, we are continuing to make moves the could help the organization in the grand scheme of things. Now, I'm going to scour the internet in hopes of getting a Chicago Bulls Carmelo Anthony jersey. Fingers crossed I get lucky.
