Disney+: Official Release Date, Cost, and More!

The era of streamed TV seems to be upon us, as less and less people are watching live television. I can't even remember watching a TV show on a channel, with the exception of sports.

It is official: Disney will be launching its streaming service, Disney+, on Nov.12 of 2019. The new service will cost $6.99 a month, or $69.99 a year for its plan. The stock market is loving the idea, as DIS (Walt Disney's stock name) is at an all time record high.

Below is a first look at what Disney+ will look like:

Similar to Netflix, which this will directly compete with, Disney+ will have recommended shows and movies, as well as shows to continue watching. The goal of course is to create an algorithm for each user (there will be multiple) so that they can watch the content they are more drawn to.

Does Disney have content! Besides the recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Disney also owns the rights to Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar. Many of these companies are already launching new shows for the service, as Marvel is developing TV shows for characters like Falcon, Scarlett Witch, and more, and Star Wars and LucasFilms has their new life action show "The Mandalorian" ready for launch.

You may be asking, what impact will this have on other streaming services, specifically Netflix? Well, for one, many Netflix shows and movies will be removed and transferred to Disney+. This will force Netflix to find new content for these gaps left behind.

I am personally excited for Disney+. The idea of old movies I used to watch growing up combined with new shows and series from the same developers has me really excited. I could switch from the classic 1994 Lion King to a brand new 2019 Star Wars TV show. Disney fans should be excited for what lies ahead!
