Technology's pretty wacky. We have so many advancements and crazy gadgets and gizmos, it's always a thought as to how we can use this to help the world around us. Apparently, we finally are.
According to an article from YaleEnvironment360, published on Dec. 27, 2018, a team of arborists have successfully cloned and grown saplings from giant, ancient redwood trees. These trees are up to 3,000 years old, with a diameter of 35 feet!
A total of 75 saplings were cloned and then planted at the Presidio National Park in San Francisco, California. The project is run by the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive, a non-profit group hoping to reestablish ancient redwood forests to help fight against climate change.
As of March 4 of this year, the AATA received a significant grant from the Seller-Lehrer Family Foundation, which guarantees support for the mission to clone and plant up to 100 important tree species.
This is absolutely incredible in my opinion. This is a group who sees what the world can do for good with technology and takes action. Climate change is a serous issue that needs to be properly addressed, and the AATA is in the front lines of that fight.
Let's save the planet, one cloned tree at a time!
