The 2018 Chicago Bears: Let's Reminisce

Updated: Jan 2, 2019

2018 is officially over, and for the next few weeks, I'll need to be reminding myself to write a '19 on all dates and not an '18.

What I don't have to leave behind in 2018 is the success of the Chicago Bears football team. A 12-4 record, winners of the NFC North, rights to the #3 seed and home field advantage in the Wildcard round of the NFL playoffs, 5 Pro Bowl selections and 7 alternates. I could go on, but I'll leave it at that.

All I wanna say in this blurb, is that for years I have watched bad Bears football. I never gave up on them though. I knew one day this team would turn it around, I just knew it. 12-4? TWELVE. AND. FOUR. CHICAGO FOOTBALL IS BACK! Of course, this blogger thought that before the season started, but it's nice to say it and know it's true.

I didn't want to write a whole lot on the game last Sunday, but I am giving a major shout out to Jordan Howard. For someone who has had some struggles adjusting to this revamped offense, he really kicked it into high gear against the Minnesota Vikings. 21 rushing attempts, 109 total yards and a pair of touchdowns was the final stat for the third year running back, and it was well deserved.

UPDATE: Howard was given the credit he earned by being named FedEx Ground Player of the Week. Well done #24!

It was nice to watch some bench players get a little PT on Sunday. As a former football player myself, I never saw a lot of playing time, so it's always put a smile on my face when a younger, developing player gets a chance to go and ball out.

While we're on the subject, there's one Bears newcomer I want to quickly write about. I would like to see wide receiver Javon Wims play a little more. He was out 2018 7th round pick, a preseason all-star and played really well on Sunday. He's a big body who's quick and runs solid routes. With the fate of Kevin White up in the air, and with the team getting younger, it's nice to see Wims get to prove himself.

One of my favorite things the Bears did this year was Club Dub. Every day after a Bears win I'd wait patiently to see that video of the team dance, Nagy hype the group up, and the selection of the game ball and who would break the huddle. Can't wait for Club Dub's first dance in 2019.

If Matt Nagy doesn't win Coach of the Year I will actually write to the NFL in rage. As a first year head coach, Nagy helped this new team win 12 games, the most wins among active head coaches in their first season. Nagy leads with so much confidence in all of his players, and his visor over bald head look may be funny, but it's his thing. He made Mitch Trubisky a franchise QB (Bears haven't had that in a LONG time), brought in a coaching staff that made all three aspects of the game better, and throughout this journey has remembered the fans who have supported him.

This Bears season has been an incredible one, but this team isn't done yet. There's plenty of football left for this team, and at this point, I can envision them heading to a Super Bowl. It's bold, but anything is possible in post season play. May the energy from 2018 carry over into the new year.

You better believe this league knows what we're capable of. Nothing better than another Bears hype video though. Really gets the adrenaline going.

Nagy says it best, but it feels good doesn't it?
