The Chicago Bulls: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Updated: Oct 24, 2018

Is it too late to say we can go 79-3? Probably. It has not been a great start to the new team, but it's still pretty early to determine the food chain of the NBA (Golden State is 2-1, so anything's possible)

Instead of breaking down everything Chicago Bulls related, I decided to focus on one Good, one Bad, and one Ugly aspect of the team. This is something new I want to try with sports articles going forward, and as I make a permanent schedule for uploads this template may be used more often.

The GOOD: Zach Lavine

Three games in, three outstanding performances! Zach Lavine is playing fantastic on the offensive side of the ball, putting up 30+ points in all three contests. He's certainly playing like someone on a 4 year, $78 million contract. I would consider him a surefire candidate for Most Improved Player, and I can see the potential of superstar status arise from the former Dunk Contest Champion.

The BAD: Jabari Parker

Everyone loves a coming home story. Nobody loves bad basketball. Parker has not shown many signs of his former glory and doesn't seem to fit into the Bulls system. We have Lauri Markkanen and we drafted Wendal Carter Jr, the signing makes zero sense. The Bulls making a big name signing that doesn't benefit the team sounds familiar (Pau Gasol, Dwayne Wade, Rajon Rando ring any bells???). He is brutal on the defensive end and seems somewhat selfish offensively. Coming off the bench has seemed to work better, but Chicago has to find a permanent way to get value from Parker to save this season.

The UGLY: the small forward position

My brother got the chance to watch the Bulls live, and was weirded out to see Justin Holiday start at small forward. The same Justin Holiday who's on his second year of a 2 year, $7 million contract. So who's the long term plan? Chandler Hutchinson, unproven rookie of 2018. The Bulls have a critical weakness in small forwards. Kris Dunn and Zach Lavine can work the 1 and 2, but Chicago needs a solid 3 if this team has any hope of being successful.
